Last seen in the G2 Run To The Rose in September, the Richard and Michael Freedman-trained colt, Stay Inside was confirmed by Field to have run his last race, his value at stud too much for the Newgate team to risk.
"He has every credential we look for," Field offered. "Brilliant speed, electric turn of foot, by a champion sire and a beautiful and very well put together horse to boot. He's run his last race, and we look forward to the next stage of his career," he said.
"He's the son of arguably the best stallion in Australia in Extreme Choice, out of an Anabaa mare (Nothin Leica Storm)," said Field. "He was a dominant 2-year-old. He won the Golden Slipper with the most extraordinary turn of foot you've ever seen in a juvenile.
"He was a crack Golden Slipper winner, started favourite in the race and I can say with my hand on my heart, I've never been more confident of Newgate standing a stallion that will make the grade long-term."
Field said although Michael Freedman had felt Stay Inside returned well last spring after overcoming some foot issues but beat only one home in the G3 San Domenico S. on return and was mid-field in the G2 Run To The Rose, all the while having his feet issues managed.
"It got to the point with him where his value is so great and he's going to be such an important part of Newgate's future, we didn't want to take any risks with him and the reality is, he''s going to be standing here for many, many years to come," Field said. "We didn't want to take any risks running a horse that wasn't right.
"Getting a dominant Golden Slipper winner by an elite sire, they are very rare commodities. A stud farm gets a stallion like that once in a blue moon," he said. "He's worth too much for the next 15 or 20 years here at Newgate. There's no doubt he's going to be a cornerstone stallion for our business and that's a risk we couldn't afford to take."
"We are going to support him aggressively with our best mares at Newgate. The fertility limitations that Extreme Choice has got, and are well-documented, well this guy truly is the heir to the throne when it comes to Extreme Choice. He's an incredibly valuable horse to us for so many reasons."
Newgate Farm purchased Stay Inside as a weanling for $60,000 from the Kingstar Farm draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and sold the colt to the Freedman Brothers for $200,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. They then bought back into the colt after Stay Inside won his first two starts.
Stay Inside defeated Godolphin duo Anamoe (Street Boss {USA}) and Frosted (USA) colt Ingratiating in the Golden Slipper.
STAY INSIDE yearlings sold up to $1,000,000 at the Gold Coast averaging $295,000 from 34 sold and he and Home Affairs were clearly the next sexy stallions on the block and has outstanding upside as he has covered books of 189, 152 and 178 in his first 3 years at a fee of $77,000 and $55,000 respectively!!

It is indeed exciting to have purchased a colt that is such an athletic type with the looks to match with a terrific hind quarter and shoulder, backed up with an outstanding pedigree as I have detailed and goes to one of the best trainers in Australia in Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr who United Syndications have been associated with for now 25 years and we have enjoyed much success with our horses including Black type performers LA BELLA DAME, LE BONSIR, DAMSELFLY, LOVEYAMADLY, ONPICALO, ROYAL CHARADES, ROYAL SNITZEL, FIGHTING HARADA, IMMORTAL LOVE, I’MLOVIN’YA etc. We pride ourselves on the service that we offer to everyone, which incorporates breaking in videos, pre training videos and track work videos. This is a service that we are very proud of and well renowned for and allows all owners to enjoy and watch the progression of their horse from the beginning at the breakers, to all of the way through to then hopefully the winners circle in the future!
