| GAME WIN FOR ONPICALO AT CAULFIELD. (5th July 2013)
3yo Hussonet Gelding Onpicalo returned to the winners circle at Caulfield-Wednesday 3rd July in a win that all owners declared afterwards was the best and bravest win yet.Onpicalo’s first up failure (which was the first time that he had been unplaced in 5 previous runs) at Sandown was to be completely ignored as he suffered interference in that race, got back further than anticipated and swallowed half of the track in the process-a line just had to be put through that run. His effort to finish 5.2 lengths away was probably a good effort in hindsight. His work subsequent had been excellent and ridden an absolute treat by mature age apprentice Ben Knobel Onpicalo showed all of his fighting qualities to land a long shot win much to the screams of joy and excitement from all of his owners who showed much exuberance in the mounting yard in after race scenes.Onpicalo bounced out of the gates but was taken on early and Ben sensibly handed up the lead and sat one out one back in the running. This was the decisive move as Onpicalo is not a sit sprint horse and likes to have plenty of room in his races. Peeling out on straightening Ben used all of his vigor to firstly hold in Ben Melham on Red Corner who was trying to push out and then re balance Onpicalo to drive to the finishing line to win by a short half head.Onpiaclo is a most progressive horse and I believe that the decision to abandon a summer campaign in favour of a Winter campaign has already and will continue to pay dividends.Onpicalo’s record now stands at 7 starts for 3 wins and 3 thirds for $61,920.00 in stakes. |
