| ONPICALO FLYING THE FLAG. (18th June 2016)
Our much loved 6yo Onpicalo showed that he was in for another great campaign and far from a spent force by defying the critics and showed just what a tough horse he is by winning the Travis Harrison Cup 1600 meters (Heat 5 of the Victorian Winter Championship) at Moonee Valley Saturday 18th June for his great contingent of owners. It was a terrific reward for the son of Hussonet who showed that a win was just around the corner after an excellent last start second at Sandown where he was just run down in the final 100 meters in that race by Kenjorwood but had a 2.5kg swing in the weights on that horse this time around. Ridden a 10 out of 10 ride for promising young apprentice Ben Thompson who was only having his 2nd ride for the Mick Price stable, Ben worked across from an outside alley where he dictated the speed, took off just prior to the turn and Onpicalo showed that magnificent determination in the straight to hold on and score decisively from Fast And Free quinellering the race for Mick. That Magnificent determination of Onpicalo has now seen him win a Metropolitan Race at each of his last 6 preparations-quite a rare feat and his overall record of 33 starts for 8 wins,3 seconds and 7 thirds has now taken his stakes to $375,275 which is a terrific return off a $40,000 Magic Million purchase in 2011! |
