| BALLISTIC MISSILE BREAKS THROUGH AT WANGARATTA. (1st November 2016)
Smart Missile 3YO Ballistic Missile broke through for his first win at Wangaratta on Melbourne Cup Day leading all of the way to win the Tyrepower Maiden over 1600 meters in nice style. He was beautifully rated in front by promising apprentice Beau Mertens after a delayed start where the barriers failed to open at the first attempt and the field had to be removed from the gates and reloaded which was a concern for all runners. Ballistic Missile showed good speed from the gate to lead comfortably when the race finally began and got a nice run in transit after being pressured early on by Rare Lilly who raced very keen. It was plain to see that Ballistic Missile was travelling like a winner at the 600 meter mark when Rare Lilly was put under pressure as was BringmeThe Butler who also settled close up and Ballistic Missile skipped away at the turn and whilst floating in front for a fair part of the straight won well by 2 lengths on the line from the Luke Oliver trained Kat Comes To Town. A $50,000 purchase from the 2015 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sales Ballistic Missile has been an immature type both mentally and physically and it is thought that he will improve as he progresses and matures. Our Syndicate trainer over many years in Mick Price will no doubt place Ballistic Missile to advantage in his upcoming runs whilst he is learning what the racing caper is all about and given his immaturity I am personally very pleased for his large group of owners to have been able to have secured a win with Ballistic Missile at what is his only his 4th start! |
