Smart Missile 3yo Smartson is starting to repay his army of Syndicate members with a strong performance at Echuca on Nov 10 Winning the Bourke Building Maiden Plate over 2100 meters in a strong determined fashion. Given a 10 out of 10 ride by Daniel Moor, Smartson again missed the start from the outside barrier which is a habit that he needs to get out of yet Daniel was able to still slot in midfield and give the horse a nice cosy run in transit. He popped off the rail at about the 800 meter mark and quickly gathered in the leaders on the turn and held on strong in the straight to win well by over a length from Ponbar Finale with the Darren Weir trained Red Sensation filling third. Purchased for $100,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast and now having won $25,155 Smartson,surprisingly has shown that all he has ever wanted to do was stay and given time has now got to the distance that he has been crying out for all along. A young sound promising type Smartson will no doubt gain great confidence from the win and will be placed to advantage in the knowledge that he will improve greatly as he matures and develops his craft over the staying trips!
