| A TASTE OF CUP SUCCESS FOR MISS DAMITA. (2nd November 2019)
Much improved 5YO Ocean Park Mare Miss Damita showed that her narrow but impressive Kyneton win on the 15th October was certainly no fluke, by dominating the Mortlake Cup on Derby Day Saturday 2nd November, running away in the concluding stages to win by a widening three and a quarter lengths on the line. Given a gun run by in form apprentice Teo Nugent, who had the Mare perfectly positioned at the mid-way mark, settling third behind the two leaders Jumbo Prince and Finn McCool, Teo popped off the fence at the 800 meter mark after getting a dream run and then extricated three wide and quickly gathered in the leaders just prior to the turn. From that point Teo released the breaks and the race was all over in a flash with the race favorite Miss Damita storming away to defeat Tysonic with Barade finishing 3rd running a time of 2.03.98 which was just a tick over 2 lengths off Better Chloe’s track record which has stood since 1984 so well is she racing. This Mare is going exceptionally well this prep, thriving down the beach at Warrnambool under Matthew Williams expert care and is giving her owners a great ride. A NZ$58,000 weanling purchase, Miss Damita has proven to be a most consistent Mare for connections and has now earned $69,060 from her 16 career runs which includes 4 wins, 1 second and 4 thirds, and may well be stepped up to a restricted Mares race in town in the coming weeks! |
