RUSSIAN REVOLUTION x PEPPERMINT PATTY COLT..

The 2015 vintage for Newgate Farm has started extremely well and will only get better with time. Henry Field, Newgate studmaster, has already enjoyed racecourse success with Capitalist in the Magic Millions and Golden Slipper from his 2015 sales purchases, and he was delighted with the book of mares that stallion served in his first season standing at the Hunter Valley farm. Now he has Russian Revolution to stand next to him as a two-time group1 winner from The Galaxy and last week’s Oakleigh Plate, after which he was retired.

‘‘We went to those 2015 sales looking to buy stallion types,’’ Field said. ‘‘We got Capitalist with James Harron, which was a dream result. But Russian Revolution is an incredible story because he is the first yearling we bought with the China Horse Club and he has turned out to be a star on the track and will be off it.’’ Regally bred Russian Revolution was a $320,000 yearling and although not ready for the big early two-year-old races, he won his races later in his juvenile year.

However, at three and four when he got his chance at group 1 he proved the fastest horse of his generation. He beat the Golden Slipper and Golden Rose winners Capitalist and Astern in the Roman Consul Stakes as a spring three-year-old and in the autumn beat all comers in The Galaxy. Russian Revolution WON 7 races from 9 starts at stakes level and above, won the Oakleigh Plate just like his sire Snitzel and great grandsire Snippets and joins Snippets as the only two horses in history to complete the Galaxy/Oakleigh Plate double!

After the Oakleigh Plate victory, Russian Revolution had nothing left to prove. ‘‘We considered going to Royal Ascot with him for the King’s Stand because he is a dynamic horse fresh and over five furlongs, but we are not going to shuttle him, so in the end there wasn’t a lot to gain by going there,’’ Field said. ‘‘I have never experienced the demand for a horse like Russian Revolution, we will announce his fee later in the year but his book is filling quickly.’’

Russian Revolution carries the major speed influences of Australian breeding through his sire Snitzel, which has Redoute’s Choice and Snippets, another horse to win The Galaxy-Oakleigh Plate double, down his page while on the dam side he has a European influence being out of Stravinsky mare Ballet d’Amour.‘‘Russian Revolution has nothing more to prove and the owners have elected to retire him on a winning note,’’ co-trainer Peter Snowden said. ‘‘He’s absolutely one of the quickest horses we have ever trained.’

Russian Revolutions progeny have been well sought after at the sales purchased by all of the top trainers and he is indeed hard to buy into as we have had a crack at a few of them at this year’s sales only to come away empty handed however we are extremely pleased to have walked away with this extremely athletic Colt that looks set to run early. Russian Revolution, who is SNITZEL’S fastest son at stud looks set to be the new star on the block when his first progeny hit the track later in the year and this colt may just be one of them as he is a beautifully smooth actioned horse with a great temperament which is all important when he ventures down to Caulfield later in the year!

The Colts pedigree is one of those pedigrees that everyone dreams of buying into and comes from a family that represents the crème de la crème of the Australian stud book today. Not only is this Colts dam a half Sister to a GROUP 1 Winner in PEGGY JEAN but his pedigree is literally filled with GROUP 1 Winning Sprinters and includes such horses as: CAPITALIST- Winner ATC Golden Slipper Stakes GROUP 1 AND currently Australia’s leading first crop stallion having already sired no less than 8 Stakes horses already from his very first crop including KALASHNIKOV, TYCOON HUMMA, PROFITEER, CAPTIVANT, SNEAKY SHARK, MARINE ONE, FORBES, MISS TUPPENCE, MISS PENNYMONEY- Winner VRC Newmarket Hcp GROUP 1 AND MVRC Australia Stakes GROUP 1, MERLENE- Winner STC Golden Slipper StakesGROUP 1 AND AJC Sires Produce Stakes GROUP 1, DEAR DEMI- Winner VRC Oaks GROUP 1, PEGGY JEAN-Winner ATC Sires Produce Stakes GROUP 1, LADY JAKEO-Winner VATC Blue Diamond Stakes GROUP 1, MRS ONASSIS- Winner MRC Oakleigh Plate GROUP 1, as well as outstanding multiple stakes winning horses of the calibre of HONALEE-Winner SAJC Yallambie Stakes GROUP 2, COMPULSION-Winner VATC Blue Diamond Preview GROUP 3, ALSHANDEGHA- Winner VATC Debutante Stakes GROUP 3, MISS JUDGEMENT-Winner MRC How Now Stakes GROUP 3, MISSROCK- Winner ATC Percy Sykes Stakes GROUP 3, FIFTH AVENUE LADY- Winner VRC Matron Stakes GROUP 3, AUSSIES LOVE SPORT- Winner- ATC Ming Dynasty Hcp GROUP 3, FOOD FOR LOVE- Winner STC Magic Night Hcp GROUP 3 and a host of other Stakes and Metropolitan winners. This is one family where the list goes on and on with winners through ALL dams and a proliferation of Black Type performers!. This is indeed an absolutely outstanding pedigree that is extremely hard to buy into and if this Colt can win any Black Type he will be worth a fortune. This is a Colt that Mick and Michael feel will run early as a 2YO so understandably, we are very excited to have purchased a Colt that ticks ALL of the boxes on type, conformation and pedigree and is a Colt that I can only encourage participation in and firmly believe that I have purchased a really nice horse here!!!
